The World Tsunami Awareness Day High School Summit in Sendai

I had a business trip to Sendai to provide simultaneous interpretation at “the World Tsunami Awareness Day High School Summit” in Sendai, held at Tohoku University.

It has already been 14 years since the Great East Japan Earthquake. Seeing high school students—many of whom have little or no memory of that day—study disaster preparedness and strive to pass on its lessons to future generations was truly moving.

After the event, I had a little time to explore the city and visited Zuihōden, the mausoleum of Date Masamune.

Although part of the route was closed due to recent bear sightings even within the city, the autumn foliage was breathtaking, and the quiet paths offered a moment of reflection.
