先日Glenn Vilppu先生のデッサンセミナーで通訳を担当させていただきました。
解剖学の理解をもとに、動きを捉えて描くというメソッドで、セミナー前には骨や筋肉の名前をたくさん覚えました。
先生に初めてお会いしたのは10年以上前。その後もさまざまなご縁で何度かご一緒していますが、さらさらっと絵を描いていく姿は、何度見てもまるで魔法のようです。
ディズニーをはじめとする大手アニメーションスタジオでも指導され、時差ボケになっている暇もないと世界を飛び回る先生。食事中でさえスケッチブックを手放さず、いつも描き続けていらっしゃる姿からも、学ぶことの多い巨匠です。

I had the pleasure of interpreting for a drawing seminar led by the legendary artist Glenn Vilppu.
His teaching method focuses on capturing movement through an understanding of anatomy, so I spent quite some time studying the names of bones and muscles in preparation for the seminar.
I first met Glenn over ten years ago, and we’ve had the opportunity to work together several times since then. Watching him draw so effortlessly still feels like witnessing magic.
He has taught at major animation studios, including Disney, and travels the world, often joking that he has no time for jet lag. He is constantly sketching, even during meals. There is so much to learn from him, not only as an artist but also from his lifelong passion and dedication to his craft.
